I just love the mountains. Somehow, going there just makes the weekend seem longer and more refreshing. Ahhhh...
Meanwhile, in the blogosphere, there has been some chatting about what sort of response times one can expect from their agent. Kristin started it with her post here. Then Jennifer Jackson and Nephele added their thoughts (and the comments are worth reading on all of those).
I'm never one without thoughts and opinions and I have strong ones on this topic. But right now I can't complain because I have a fantabulous agent who is amazingly responsive :) I'm curious to know what y'all think: what should an author expect from an agent in terms of responsiveness (whether they are repped by that agent or not, though those are very different situations!).

I think people were full of BS in that comment thread. And I think the author was being REALLY weird for writing ANOTHER agent to ask her why she didn't hear from HER agent. I think that's an excuse. My guess? She wants to fire her agent and hire Kristin and is feeling that out.
When I don't hear from my agent, I talk to MY agent about it.
Diana is right--That was a weird thread.
My agent is great--super responsive. But I have a friend repped by someone else who goes weeks without a response and is ready to pull her hair out. I guess the author/agent relationship is like any other--it all depends on the personalities of the people involved, and not every match is a love connection.
Yeah, I agree with you both that the thread was wierd. I think it was an interesting fact pattern -- how odd for an agented author to CALL up another agent to ask for advice! I wonder if Diana is right on that... maybe she was looking for a new agent.
Personally, I think 3 weeks is a long time to wait for a status update. But I also think that sometimes agents and authors don't communicate enough -- I see all the time authors who are too afraid to say anything to their agents. And so the author has all these expectations the agent knows nothing about, which isn't really fair (for either party).
It's just like every other relationship (business or personal): you gotta talk!
