I'm not gonna lie, one of the best parts of selling foreign rights is seeing how other countries imagine the covers. There's really nothing like that first moment you see a cover -- whether it's the first cover for your first book or the third. It's been really really fascinating to see what other countries have come up with -- how they see the characters and the books and how different they all are from each other. And I have to say, I've been super super fortunate that all the covers I've seen so far have been amazing -- I really do have some fantastic foreign publishers!!

For a few years, I was able to devote one or two of those increments to this blog a few times a week. In October 2007 sold my debut novel, THE FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH, to Delacorte Press (it came out March 10, 2009 and hit the New York Times bestselling list in 2010). In October 2008 I quit my lawyer job and now I'm a full-time writer. My second book, THE DEAD-TOSSED WAVES, is a companion to the first and came out March 9, 2010. The third in the series, THE DARK AND HOLLOW PLACES, released March 22, 2011. My first anthology, FORETOLD: 14 Tales of Prophecy and Prediction, will be out fall 2012 as well as my first middle grade novel, INFINITY RING: DIVIDE AND CONQUER, Book 2 of Scholastic's new multi-author/multi-platform series. I am completely in love with the Brazil cover. I want! not because I would be able to read it I just want to stare at it all day!
i have those UK covers (only my FOHT is black, and i love it, i specifically sought it out for my birthday last year!) and i LOVE THEM. :) <3
I love the UK/Aust/NZ covers - mainly because they are the versions I read!!!! But I can promise that they totally stood out in the stores over here!
The Brazil cover is beautiful!
I think the French cover is my favorite, although I'm loving the font on the Brazilian one. (Once a graphic designer, always a graphic designer.)
ooh, I agree. All of these are awesome! So lucky! Good for you. I seriously love the first one!
Germany has the best covers. Their covers of Cassandra Clare's TMI books are my favorites of her many covers.
LOVE the Brazilian cover, Carrie!
(as in, that's my favorite. Obviously, they all rock!)
I love the Brazilian cover and the French. :-D
I think the French and German covers really evoke the ominous nature of the forest. Beautiful!
The Brazil cover is gorgeous. Is it bad to say I like it better than the US covers?
Dude, you have the best covers everywhere, seriously. I love ALL of them!
Oh I am in love with the Brazil cover too! Congrats on all of them!
YBrazil and France are my absolute favorites. The France cover reminds a bit of dark version of Red Riding Hood. You are so lucky to end up with amazing covers for all of them! Did you receive copies of all your foreign books?
Wow! Some very cool covers. I like the tag lines on the UK/Aus/NZ covers. Very fitting!
Hello Carrie,
Thank you for posting our brazilian cover here. Brazilian fans are really happy and I am glad you are too. I can't wait to let you see the cover of the second book.
YAY!!! So happy y'all like them as much as I do!
So glad they stood out in Uk/Aus/NZ Amanda!
Rose, right now I have the French, UK and Germany copies and should get the others at some point. It's very cool to hold them :)
Editora Underworld -- thanks again for the awesome cover! Can't wait to see the second!!!
Wow--those are gorgeous! Even though they are more understated, there is something about the UK/Aus covers, especially the red leaf for FHT--haunting!
Its a shame that it haven't been published in spanish. I loved you book, and I now young adult spanish readers will love it too!
I love the German cover!
I think that Germany and Brazilian covers are the BEST!
Can't decide which one is better! *---*
But since I don't speak germany, ler keep with the Brazilian (portuguese language) one! :)
I absolutely love the UK/AUS/NZ ones. They're so elegant and beautiful, and they also capture the tone of your books.
All the covers look great. :)
They're all gorgeous! Interesting to see the difference in titles for the French and German versions. The French 'The forest of the damned' sounds almost like an Anne Rice novel to me. (Anne Rice with zombies, that is.) And I love the German 'Forest of a thousand eyes', it's poetic :D
Hello! I was wondering if you have sold the german rights for the dead tossed waves?
