Foreign Covers!

I'm not gonna lie, one of the best parts of selling foreign rights is seeing how other countries imagine the covers.  There's really nothing like that first moment you see a cover -- whether it's the first cover for your first book or the third.  It's been really really fascinating to see what other countries have come up with -- how they see the characters and the books and how different they all are from each other.  And I have to say, I've been super super fortunate that all the covers I've seen so far have been amazing -- I really do have some fantastic foreign publishers!!

Here are a few that I've seen so far:

Brazil, Editora Underworld (you can visit the microsite for the book here):

Brazil
France, Gallimard-Jeunesse:

France
Greece, Platypus Publication:

Greece

UK/Aus/NZ, Gollancz

Germany, Verlagsgruppe Random House

Germany
I love all of these so much and am a lucky lucky author!

I think the French cover is my favorite, although I'm loving the font on the Brazilian one. (Once a graphic designer, always a graphic designer.)

Germany has the best covers. Their covers of Cassandra Clare's TMI books are my favorites of her many covers.

I think the French and German covers really evoke the ominous nature of the forest. Beautiful!

The Brazil cover is gorgeous. Is it bad to say I like it better than the US covers?

YBrazil and France are my absolute favorites. The France cover reminds a bit of dark version of Red Riding Hood. You are so lucky to end up with amazing covers for all of them! Did you receive copies of all your foreign books?

Wow--those are gorgeous! Even though they are more understated, there is something about the UK/Aus covers, especially the red leaf for FHT--haunting!

I absolutely love the UK/AUS/NZ ones. They're so elegant and beautiful, and they also capture the tone of your books.

All the covers look great. :)

They're all gorgeous! Interesting to see the difference in titles for the French and German versions. The French 'The forest of the damned' sounds almost like an Anne Rice novel to me. (Anne Rice with zombies, that is.) And I love the German 'Forest of a thousand eyes', it's poetic :D

Hello! I was wondering if you have sold the german rights for the dead tossed waves?
