Go Team Audio (+ a contest!)
June is audiobook month and I'm super excited to celebrate! I couldn't be more thrilled that Listening Library released audio versions of all three of the books in my Forest of Hands and Teeth series. It's super surreal to hear my words coming out of someone else's mouth -- I think it's the closest I've ever come to understanding how others interpret and internalize what I've written.
You can hear for yourself what I'm talking about! Here's a sample from The Forest of Hands and Teeth:
Here's The Dead-Tossed Waves:
Here's The Dark and Hollow Places:
And to celebrate Audiobooks month I'm giving some away! To enter just comment on this post (and if you're looking for something to comment about I'd love to know what your favorite audiobook is and/or where you tend to listen to audiobooks). I'll be picking winners with a random number generator on Friday, June 10th. You get an extra entry for tweeting or facebooking about this contest (don't forget to comment letting me know about your tweet or facebook entry). The prizes: I'll be giving away a copy of each of my audiobooks.
Happy Audiobook Month!!

Oooh this is such a fun contest, Carrie! I LOVE audio books like whoa!
Ooh, great giveaway!
I'd have to say that I love the Dresden Files audiobooks b/c James Marsters reads them. heh. And I also recently picked up City of Fallen Angels' audiobook b/c I listened to the sample and HAD to get it. Ed Westwick reads it. Yum. :D
Best place to get audiobooks for me?
Audible.com. Awesome site, great bargains.

I love audio books! My favorite actually happens to be the Forest of Hands and Teeth! (and I'm not making that up just to make you feel good)
I love audio books. They help me survive my daily commute. If it weren't for my books I would be just another sad commuter on the train. :)
Thanks for the amazing giveaway!
I love the Harry Potter books. I'm actually listening to one now. I usually listen when I am working on something around the house or when I'm driving.
I have the first two of your books & am hoping to get Dark & Hollow Places soon!
I posted on Twitter & facebook http://twitter.com/childofthe80s

I've listened to audiobooks for years...they were a great way to keep from going nuts at a mindless job...now I use them for housework and long drives.
We listen to audiobooks on long car trips. Listened to #TheDeadTossedWaves on a road trip from Seattle WA to Billings MT. It was my first audiobook and I was hooked from the start.
Also tweeted about contest as @Cassidy_Finn
Thanks for the fun contest!
I love to listen to just about any audiobook in the car on my way to work, but Sarah Dessen's books are always great.
I LOVE audiobooks. I listen to them while I drive, while I cook and clean, in the shower (on a speaker thing). Anywhere I can!
Love these books so much!
:)

I listened to your first two books on audiobook and loved them both. I haven't listened to The Dark and Hollow Places but would love too. I usually listen to the audiobooks in the car and on my ipod while at the gym.

Fun contest! Our favorite audio book was Coraline. My son couldn't listen to it all when he was younger, even though I'd already read him the book. The audio book rendition was that creepy.
My all time favorite are the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy books, the ones narrated by Douglas Adams himself. He obviously knows what eh was going for and makes them even more perfect. Other favorites include Water for Elephants (which was a perfect narration) and The Graveyard Book. I do love me some audiobooks!
Audible is my main hunting ground, they have some great deals and sales. iTunes is also pretty good for ones I can't get from my region off of Audible.

I have never listened to a book. My Aunt, who is a school teacher, says they are wonderful. If I were to get one I would listen to it going to and from work. My drive is an hour long so it would be a good time to listen to a book.
I had never been a big audiobook fan until I listened to one on the drive back to Detroit from D.C. I think it was The Passage by Justin Cronin. That wasn't my favorite though. I'm currently listening to Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, and it adapts excellently to the audio format. It's kind of perfect.

What a great giveaway. I love audiobooks.
I think my faves so far that I've listened to would be Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games. :)
I think your books would be amazing to listen to... sometimes it's nice to be read to once in awhile.

I am an avid reader - I read most books in their native form. As far as audiobooks go, my favorite is the Lord of the Rings (I love the language, but I can read so many other books in the span of conquering the Rings again. And lately, I am hooked on Modern Scholar series - not books, per se, but lectures on all sorts of subjects. The audio-lectures just make me feel smarter.
I LOVE audiobooks. I have to be doing something, physically, while I listen, though. Driving and walking the dog are great activities to accompany audiobooks; I listen to more books on my daily commute than I have time to sit down and read. Without some sort of physical task, however, I tend to start daydreaming--or sometimes actually dreaming! Even a well-made audiobook can be surprisingly soporific.
My favorites remain the Harry Potter series narrated by Jim Dale. Brendan Fraser also does a great job with Dragon Rider. I'll have to comb through your comments and take suggestions for other great readers. (Ooh, James Marsters with Dresden Files, interesting....)
I get really dizzy when I read while I'm riding in a car so I always need tons of audio books while going on road trips. I seem to usually pick books that are more girly like Sarah Dessen. But my favorite book to listen to was The Forest of Hands and Teeth.I thought the reader did a FANTASTIC job! I reread parts of the book and still loved it, but it was a lot different from the first time.I think I thought of it differently because of the way she read it so sadly.
I usually listen to audiobooks in the car with my daughter. Our favorite is Coroline.

That is so awesome!!! I'm so excited and the books are great. =D

Don't enter me! But I have to add that audible.com is AMAZING. SUCH a great resource for audio books!
I absolutely adore listening to Jim Dale read any of the "Harry Potter" books. And I listen to audiobooks on my iPod while walking on my treadmill.
Congrats on your audiobook! This is so exciting!
I like to listen to audio books on long trips, though so far I only have a couple HP books in audio format.
I enjoy listening to audiobooks because I'm a complete multi-tasker. I work 2 jobs and one of them I do from home but sometimes I am plugged into an audiobook to make it more enjoyable. We review audiobooks on our blog...most people haven't even considered them! Hard to believe because most libraries now offer them for free AND there are no late charges!

I'm a huge audio book reader! My all-time favorite audio book is Dragon Rider by Cornelia Funke, read by Brendan Fraiser. I had to keep reminding myself that it was just one person! I'll listen to anything Jim Dale reads. I love books from multiple perspectives read by multiple readers. I recently listened to Jennifer Donneley's Revolution, which not only had two readers, the second reader had the appropriate accent (the character was a teen during the French Revolution). I'm currently listening to Keith Richards' autobiography, with 3 YA fiction titles on my device waiting in the wings.
I am a librarian and get my audio books exclusively from the public library. I have not played with the downloadable audio books yet, but other readers should know that their public library probably has them.
I listen mostly in my car. Occasionally I will listen while walking or at the gym. I will save books that I think my fiancé and I will both like for car trips. He actually listens to audio books because of me. On our first date, he mentioned he was a slow reader and I asked about his commute and if he had considered audio books. He had about 25 minutes each way and no, hadn't tried them. By our second date a week later, he had a library card and 2 audio books checked out, and he's been hooked ever since!
Please drop my name in the hat! Fun contest! I think I've listened to A Wrinkle in Time read by the author a hundred times since I downloaded it!
awesome contest. I love audiobooks, I listen to them daily because I work in a lab and I can listen to them while I work.

I love audiobooks! I always have one in my car and another on my ipod. I listen to them while driving, working out, cleaning... any time I get! My favorites have been Artemis Fowl, White Cat, Clockwork Angel, The Dead-Tossed Waves and Heist Society. I'm enjoying Gail Carson Levine's newest right now :)
OMG!! I'm super excited about this! I love audiobooks and to get the opportunity to listen to The forest of Hands a Teeth series is incredible even if I've read them already... Your story is one that I shall read and re-read for the rest of my life and I love that you are giving us the opportunity to win a set of the audiobooks! I've thank you before both through goodreads and twitter for sharing this amazing story and now this! Wow! Anyhow if you really enjoy audiobooks, there's three series that even though I've read them the audiobook version is so amazing I have listening to the a bunch because is a whole different experience: Charlene Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series, Suzanne Collins's Hunger games and the Harry Potter whole series! Amazing and completely enjoyble, the narrators do such a great job! Anyhow, do enter my name in that draw because I would love you even more if I wan a set lol I'd still be a huge fan if I don't though! Lol take care!
Excuse my mistakes in my previous post, my first language is Spanish and sometimes I screw up a lot when writing lol. Reading books in English and listening to audio-books do help a lot though... ;)
Came to you via Katelinnea on Twitter. I LOVE Audio books, and after listening to the sample of Forrest of Hands and Teeth, I can wait to experience this audio! I listen when I'm riding my harley, or driving a long distance. Contests are so fun and you def. suckered me in with this one! Subbing now, and pick me pick me!!!
I've only listened to one audiobook which was City of Bones. I think the only time I listened was in my car on the way to work.
I listen to audiobooks in my car. I'm stuck on a David Sedaris one (well, not really stuck, because he's AWESOME).
I listened to your samples, and I have to say that I really enjoy listening to the novels read in audio format. It allows you to shape the voice of the characters and really gives the whole thing another dimension.
Thanks for writing, and for the chance to win!
Great giveaway! I don't usually listen to a lot of audiobooks, since I hate being in a car, but my mom loves audiobooks so much!
I really enjoy audio books. I listen to them at work sometimes, occasionally while I'm going for a walk and usually while I'm cleaning. Don't listen to them in the car because I usually have little ears with me that shouldn't be hearing some things.
GREAT giveaway. Audiobooks make my commute bearable--it's the perfect length for a chapter or so. I adored the audiobook of Zuzak's I am the Messenger. SO WELL DONE.
jpetroroy at gmail dot com
Great giveaway. I drive 45mins each way to and from work, so I am now hooked on audiobooks and listen every day. I love anything Jim Dale has ever recorded, same with Katherine Kellgren...
My favorite audiobook is Artemis Fowl. The reader had such expressive voices, it was a joy to listen to. I really should take the time to get the other audio books in that series from the library to finish... But audiobooks are harder to read than print for me. I'm definitely NOT an audio person. If I'm not putting a lot of attention into what I'm listening to, it's in one ear and out the other. Reading is a lot more worthwhile to me, but now that I drive, it's a little easier to find the time to listen to something. I'd love to have an audio version of one of your books. I've never owned an audiobook before, so it would be a great first! :)
I have to jump on the bandwagon and say my favorite audiobooks are the Jim Dale reading of the Harry Potter series. I'm a fast reader, and one of the things I love about audiobooks is that the slower pace often brings out things that I missed when I was reading the book.
I used to drive 3 hours back and forth almost every weekend between where I worked and where my friends and family live and I listened to a LOT of audiobooks (thank you public library!) I have less car time to listen to them since I moved back, but I still like to put one on for long road trips and flights.
YAY!!! I have so much love for audiobooks!! I would love to be able to listen to your books!!
I'll add my Harry Potter love to this love fest. Best audiobooks ever, and I've listened to a ton.
After that, I think I'd pick His Dark Materials. They were really fantastic. And just recently I've listened to The Seven Realms series and it was also amazing!
LOVE!!

Ever since I received my kindle on Christmas I have read over 100 books and have enjoyed it sooo much. Your second book of forest of hands and teeth was my first kindle book that I read. Very good. I have only listened to a sample audio book of Hunger Games and it was amazing..so I would love to try to win an audio book. I would listen to it while I drive which, it takes me 2 to and from my workplace everyday. So, this would make my ransit so much easier. Thank you for this opportunity!!
Audio books are great for commuting to work, as a Librarian I need to keep up on my reading which is not always easy so this helps me add to my books read pile.
I have two favorites "To Kill a Mockingbird" read by Sissy Spacek. My other is "The Help" I did not want this story to end. Can't wait for the movie.
I have read your triology and loved it.
Susan
I loved the Inheritence Cycle by Christopher Paolini on audio book. The narrarator just hit every word and emotion perfectly. I love audio books. My favorite place to listen to them is in the car. I hardly ever listen to the radio anymore. =) I linked the contest on twitter @Lenmeo and FB http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/Lenmeo and Blogger http://afterthebook.blogspot.com/

I listened to the Forest of Hands and Teeth before I read it, while I was riding my exercise bike. I kept forgetting to pedal, and I can't think of a better compliment than that!
I love all of your books! Audiobooks will be another great way to enjoy all of them. I like audiobooks because I can multitask while I'm listening. :)
I think my favorite audiobook has to be one of the Percy Jackson books. It's the way I first them all and to this day, when I see a quote from one of the books, I hear it in that guys voice. (: Great contest!
laurabt@cox.net
My favorite audios to listen to are the Harry Potter, entire collection. It amazing how much time you can spend listening to it all. I listen to audiobooks at work, so I have 8 hours every day.

I've just recently really gotten in to audio books. My kids and I listen in the car. It's a great way to get my son to read!
themgowl at gmail dot com
I have really enjoyed the first two books and can't wait to listen to the next one. I listen while I do housework and in bed after the kids are finally down for the night :)
Wow, I love this. The amazing truth is, I have *never* experienced an audiobook. There have been so many times where I am reading a book at breakfast and I have to force myself to put it down in order to drive to work. (Sometimes I read at the traffic lights :D)
Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus Trilogy + Simon Jones = PERFECTION!!!
Oooh! How exciting! Count me in!
I just tweeted it too! (retweeted)
I have a long commute so I listen to audiobooks in the car usually. I also tweeted about your giveaway.
Thanks for the opportunity!
Just posted it on Facebook too :-). Great books!
Audio books are awesome. :) I don't read, er, listen to near enough. The ones I've enjoyed the most recently is Insatiable by Meg Cabot, and the Uglies/Pretties/Specials Trilogy by Scott Westerfield.
I also re-tweeted your tweet that brought me here. :)
Awesome. Hope to win, and I need to get a new audio book. they're perfect for commuting. Can't read and drive, but I can listen ;)
Great contest! I just wrapped up The Help on auidible on my iPhone and started Bossypants! Would love to listen to The Dark and Hollow Places (already have to-be-read paperback of The Dead Tossed Waves)! I retweeted the contest!
I own and have read all your books. LOVE THEM! I would have to say some of my favorite audio books are anything read by Jim Dale. (Harry Potter, Peter Pan). The Looking Glass Wars books are also very very good on audio. I recently listened to Where She Went and REALLY enjoyed it. I own quite of few audio cd sets and some on itunes (All of Cassandra Clares books /can't get enough of those/) I love listening to audio in the car on my way to work. Glad to here yours have made it to the medium. I retweeted your contest (timestndstill)
I've never listened to an audio book before but the prospect of listening to your books makes me want to give it a go!
I love audiobooks, too. They make my hour long commute to and from work more bearable. I listen at work sometimes, too. (I spend a lot of my day drawing on the computer) Some of my favorite listens are:
Harry Potter
The Sword of Truth series
Hunger Games
Keys to the Kingdom series
I just finished listening to The Chosen One by Carol Lynch Williams and the narrator, Jenna Lamia, was incredible.
I listen to audioboooks in the car and as I work on the computer. All I know is that I prefer one narrator instead of a cast audio recording..it's too hard to differentiate the characters.
This is the best musical surprise I have witnessed in the past 5 years. The album is a cross between the old Megadeth feel with a modern polished sound, which forms a perfect mesh. For full disclosure, I don't think there are any bad Megadeth albums out there, but in the post Youthanasia era there has been a clear drop in the level of authentic Mustaine emotion. The whole album has this perfect rolling sound without any breaks or low points. It is rare that I like an album on the first attempt, but this has been the case here. If you are a weathered Deth enthusiast, you obviously need to hear the final versions of New World Order and Millenium of the Blind.
